In collaboration with community groups, Paryavaran Aayog has successfully restored 12 historic lakes and water reservoirs. These projects have revitalized critical wetlands and boosted local water tables.

"Restoring our traditional water bodies is the most secure way to build local water safety. Rejuvenated lakes acts as functional blue lungs that cool our micro-regions."

Impact Analysis

By removing hundreds of tons of solid waste and introducing native floating flora, these water bodies now act as functional ecological hubs and bird sanctuaries, recharging millions of liters of groundwater annually.

We thank the hundreds of local neighborhood volunteers who pitched in to clear weeds, build natural filter dykes, and preserve these blue lungs of our communities.

Restoration Milestones Achieved:

  • Desiltation: Removed over 45,000 cubic meters of heavy silt and concrete debris.
  • Natural filtration: Set up bio-remediation grids containing vetiver grass to absorb organic effluents.
  • Aquifer Recharge: Installed direct recharge channels to direct runoff water into deeper soil beds.
  • Green Buffers: Planted 1,500 water-loving native shrubs along lake bunds to prevent soil erosion.

Restoring Local Bio-diversity

The rejuvenation projects have completely transformed local fauna populations. Our bio-assessments show a 40% jump in migratory water bird sightings, including painted storks and whistling ducks, alongside the return of native frog and dragonfly populations that act as natural mosquito control shields for adjacent neighborhoods.

Lake Rejuvenation: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: How can our local group nominate a drying pond for restoration?

Registered village panchayats or local RWAs can submit a pond nomination form under our 'Initiatives' portal, including high-resolution images and approximate site dimensions.

Q2: How do bio-filters clean toxic wastewater?

We plant localized wetlands filled with water-hyacinth and Canna plants that absorb excess nitrogen and phosphorus from sewage runoff naturally, filtering water before it joins the main lake bed.

Scaling Up the Campaign

In the upcoming phase, Paryavaran Aayog aims to extend this pond rejuvenation drive to 25 more rural panchayat zones. Rural communities are invited to register local dying ponds under our water resource cell for technical clearance and financial support.
