Under the mandates of Article 48A and 51A(g) of the Indian Constitution, Paryavaran Aayog has released a set of binding regulations for municipal and development authorities in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. These directives aim to curb arbitrary lopping and illegal cutting of mature trees.

"Delhi's mature tree canopy is the primary natural shield against extreme summer heatwaves and winter dust. Protecting it is not just a civic duty, but a legal mandate under our green vigilance framework." — Environment Vigilance Directorate

Strict Protection Measures

All civil and developmental projects must now obtain environmental clearance from our vigilance panel before pruning or altering any area containing mature canopy trees. Violations will result in immediate halt directives and legal prosecution.

Our specialized team of foresters will carry out active monitoring in critical sectors to ensure compliance. Public participation is also requested; any citizen who observes unapproved tree felling can immediately raise an online report through our vigilance dashboard.

Key Directives Issued:

  • Mandatory Audits: Complete tree census before any commercial road widening or civil layout.
  • Heavy Fines: Imposition of compound fines of up to ₹50,000 for unauthorized lopping of branches above 15cm thickness.
  • Compensatory Planting: Ten native saplings must be planted and watered for 3 years for every single tree cleared under approved projects.
  • Vigilance Patrols: Daily rounds by Aayog field wardens in high-construction zones.

Legal Framework and Constitutional Mandates

Directive Principles of State Policy (Article 48A) explicitly declare that the State shall endeavor to protect and improve the environment and safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country. Furthermore, Fundamental Duty Article 51A(g) mandates every citizen to protect and improve the natural environment. These directives convert these grand ideals into enforceable municipal protocols inside the National Capital Region.

Delhi Canopy Directives: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can residents prune tree branches touching electric wires?

Pruning of dangerous branches must only be done by authorized municipal electricity boards under the direct guidance of local foresters. Unauthorized chopping remains strictly prohibited.

Q2: How can we request a compliance check on a road widening project?

Citizens can upload project pictures, and specify the street name under our grievance portal, notifying the regional vigilance desk instantly.

Citizen Reporting Gateways

Paryavaran Aayog urges citizens to report violations instantly. An anonymous photo and GPS location uploaded through our dynamic Grievance Redressal desk helps field wardens reach the site within 60 minutes to verify municipal approvals.
